Jakarta Zoo

I went to a zoo!!! I love zoos, this one is the Taman Safari, and it was amazing. It was only $13.50 for me, my driver, and the van to drive through the entire park.

First, here are the zebras. I fed them carrots from the car.

They had a baby elephant. The elephants thankfully could not walk up to the car.

Monkeys would walk up to the cars, but I didn't have bananas, only carrots.

Here is a doe eyed llama.

Here are the big birds. They didn't want to have anything to do with my carrots either.

This is the hippo begging for carrots.

And here, I actually was able to toss the carrot into its mouth. See it?

The camels couldn't come up to the car either.

Here are a bunch of little deer.

These big guys were scary, and I fed them! Giant tongues.

I loved the horns in this guy.

This black bear didn't come close to the car. I'm not sure what was stopping him though.

And thankfully this chimp couldn't get close to the car.

Here I am feeding another llama type animal. I couldn't read any of the signs, so I don't know what the animals are.

This is the part of the park where you were not supposed to role down your window or stop. There was nothing stopping the big cats from coming up to us!

Jakarta Food

I made it a point to eat Indonesian food. I should have written down the names of these dishes, but I was told they were very common Indonesian food. I had a soup, meat on a stick with thick, spicy peanut dip, and a fried rice bowl with meat and a fried egg. I very much enjoyed the street food!

And here is a tasty piece of fruit that was served at my meeting. I think it was a parsimon.

Driving in Jakarta

If I hadn't been to Bangkok, the driving here would have given me a heart attack. I knew to brace myself, and not look, because I'm a pretty nervous passenger. People share lanes, nudge in and out, motorcycles in and out. There is no way I could handle driving there with my giant following distance.

Here are a bunch of pics I took from the car window.
This guy was riding in this van like this as long as we were behind him!

My Jakarta Hotel

I'm back in Houston and have gotten rid of my jet lag. Time to post some pics!

I stayed at the Dharawangsa hotel while in Jakarta. Very nice.

When you drive in, security opens the car, the trunk, and uses a mirror to check under the car for car bombs. Did NOT make me feel safe. Here is the medal detector at the entrance.

Here is the part of the lobby.

This is the cloth hanging in the entrance to my room.

Here is the front room.

The balcony. I left my door open most of the time I was in the room. It was warm and rainy.

The bedroom. Very comfy, although there was only a comforter, not sheets.

Here is the bathroom.

Here is the pool that I didn't use. I really should have brought my suit!

And last, here is a night view from my balcony.

Marley!

My favorite song (Three Little Birds) is on Channel V here in the hotel! I didn't even know there was a video for this song.
